Full review of the Elite Qubo Wireless Digital Turbo Trainer

The Elite Qubo Wireless Digital Turbo Trainer is one of Elite’s newest additions to the market. Its stylish design and wirelessly controlled functionality will certainly make you come back for a second look.

Features

Although a reasonably priced trainer, the Elite Qubo Wireless Digital Turbo Trainer is relatively feature rich in that it offers a two-way ANT coded handlebar mounted cycle computer with a large LCD display. The computer is very user-friendly and displays 5 information fields including: speed, distance, heart rate (although you will need to purchase the ANT+ chest strap separately), cadence, time and wattage. Although the cycle-computer is wireless, the Qubo Wireless Digital does nevertheless require a plug socket to make it work so make sure you are near one.

The Qubo frame is the newest development from Elite and basically provides a wider footprint with adjustable feet for added security and stability. This trainer does not come with a riser block so I would advise buying one to get the most out of your sessions.

Usability

When it comes to setup, Elite have clearly put a lot of thought into this as it really is just a case of clamping the wheel in place as your weight will keep the contact with the roller. I am a real fan of this no-fuss system as I am always keen to just get on the bike and get going.

There are 16 resistance levels on offer and switching back and forth between them is smooth and hassle free. Additionally, the cycle computer comes with 10 pre-programmed training modes which vary from interval to strength training. Each session lasts approximately an hour. The sessions themselves are actually really good and will give your training a bit more variety.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can also download the iQubo app which gives you the option to ride courses created with Google maps. This is a really nice feature but it does require an ANT dongle to work – which is not included with the trainer.

The ride itself is even and overall pretty realistic. This is largely thanks to the fact that there is some flex in the frame which allows for natural movement as you pedal, thus creating a more convincing riding experience. Because the roller is ElastoGel, your bike will grip far more efficiently while remaining relatively quiet. Well quiet enough to cycle in front of the telly or to music which is pretty quiet in my books.

The Verdict on the Elite Qubo Wireless Digital?

The Elite Qubo Wireless Digital is getting a lot of attention for good reason. Its solid construction and wireless cycle computer with pre-programmed options will keep your training sessions interesting and varied. The best part is that this trainer is competitively priced making it a great investment.

About Allan Quinley

Allan has been on a bike pretty much since he was 7. He is a keen racer, both mountain and road, although he leans slightly more to the hills. He tears up London traffic daily on his way to work on his Bianchi Sempre 105. Why don't you give him a wave next time you see him? He takes care of everyone here in the Reviewed & Rated Cycling Dept.
