Elna 2600 Sewing Machine

Full Review of the Elna 2600 Sewing Machine

At first sight this Elna sewing machine looks very workmanlike and solid and at second look there is even more about it that you will find useful in all your day to day sewing. The inches and centimetres across the front are excellent for a quick reference and the needle plate also has measurements on it for precise alignment of seams. A very useful extra feature is the square corner on the needle plate for aligning edges of jackets, plackets and hems of curtains, table linen etc. As a quilter I am finding that the guides are very useful and have saved me loads of time which I would once have spent tacking and marking.

Getting used to the Elna 2600 Sewing Machine

I am a very experienced machinist, but have always found when changing machines that there are always little things to discover which may take some time. I found that in starting up with the Elna 2600 Sewing Machine I didnt have to spend too much time exploring as it tends to wear its heart on its sleeve and everything you need to know is printed on the front or is so obvious you can work it out, such as they very well placed reverse button.

Dropping the feed dog for freehand work is a matter of one lever, which is handily placed on the back of the free arm this is a real bonus for me because I sometimes want to do a small amount of free style stitching off the cuff, as it were and it is a nuisance if you have to fiddle about to drop the dog. I make quilts for a small shop where I live and this machine has definitely shortened my lead time for fulfilling orders. My previous machine had a metal bobbin with a separate case and the transparent drop in bobbin has been an unforeseen time saver as a quick peek tells me how much thread I have on board and what colour, so I am not forever unthreading.

Recommending the Elna 2600 Sewing Machine

I belong to a craft club and new members are often asking us more established crafters (note I say established rather than old!) which machine to buy. There are machines on the market which are much more expensive than the Elna 2600 Sewing Machine and I really dont think any crafter would need one of those, unless their projects were very complex indeed, such as fabric sculpture or serious appliqu頵sing lace, leather and similar difficult fabrics. I have used glace kid in a project and had no problems with it, but for projects such as ecclesiastical appliqu頹ou might need something more sophisticated; I would imagine this machine would suit most other purposes, though.

  1. This is an outstanding sewing machine from Elna. It has a lot of power. It features four stretch stitches, 4 step buttonholes, sleeve arm, and it does a great job with tough fabrics.
