Full Review of the Jet Black Mag Pro Turbo Trainer
The Jet Black Mag Pro Turbo Trainer is the pro version of the popular Jet Black Mag. It is preassembled and comes with five pre-set resistance levels, giving the equivalent of a flat road run to a steep climb. All of the levels can be adjusted through the remote control on the handlebars. The wide frame gives excellent stability so you can give each training session some serious welly. The smart black livery gives the Jet Black Mag Pro Turbo Trainer a very serious appearance and to top it off, its price tag makes it a favourable option.
Why the Jet Black Mag Pro Turbo Trainer is such good value
Jet Black products are generally built to a very high standard (I say generally because I am less than impressed with the Jet Black DynoMeter Trainer) and the only real difference between the budget level units and the more expensive ones is the inclusion of extras. This applies to this particular trainer as it is built to last although if you want to measure your heart rate, cadence and power output, be warned that this trainer offers none of this functionality.
This trainer offers five levels of resistance, all of which can be seamlessly adjusted via remote control. The magnetic resistance unit is very hard wearing but when you start hitting the higher resistance levels, it is not as quiet as it should be. Furthermore, this trainer delivers just 350 watts at its maximum setting which is perfect if you are just looking for a workout but will fall short for the serious cyclists. The wide base provides more than adequate support and stability so you can focus on your session rather than wonder if the machine will cope when you stand up or really push yourself.
The Jet Black Mag Pro Turbo Trainer is sold as a pro machine but with the limited wattage it is not really ideal for professional cyclists, particularly as fitness levels increase. For the committed amateur, this trainer would be a very good buy. If you are the coach of a very young squad who might be tempted to push themselves beyond their safe comfort zone, this trainer would be a good choice of unit. What’s more, after each training session, this trainer is very easy to fold and store away.
Although marketed as a pro trainer, the Jet Black Mag Pro is a simple trainer that will add to your existing training regime. With its 5 resistance settings and sturdy base, this trainer is a great buy and is great value.
