Full Review of the Salomon XA 10+3 EXP Mens Insulated Set
Salomon are a company specialising in gear for winter or cold climate activities and their packs have become more and more popular over the last few years. The Salomon XA 10+3 is a mid-size pack which aims to solve the compromise between storage capacity and hydration requirements.
The Salomon XA 10+3Exp Insulated Set has a respectable storage capacity of 13 litres split between two main sections. There is also additional storage to be had in a mesh side pocket for smaller items. Accessibility is good due to a U-shaped main zip which opens up the main compartment and exposes a mesh lined inner pockets for your mobile, keys etc. At the bottom of the main pocket there are water drainage holes in case you get a bit water-logged. The second compartment on the Salomon XA 10+3 is accessed from the front through a horizontal zip and should probably be used for less often used items as it is not as accessible as the larger pocket.
Comfortable Padding using Airvent Foam
The back is comfortably padded with Salomons own Airvent Lite expanded foam, which is a little bulky, but with very little extra weight. The Salomon XA 10+3waist belt is made from wide mesh and fits very snuggly indeed. A standard buckle clips in the centre with adjustment made at either end of the strap which also really hugs the pack in tight to the waist. The shoulder harness is also extremely comfortable to use. Also on the shoulder straps are clips to attach an extra chest pouch which is useful. The Salomon XA 10+3 has an interesting design addition which is the zips on the hip pockets are reversed and open outwards to prevent them catching on bushes etc.
Now to the hydration element of the pack; The Salomon XA 10+3 has a separate pocket solely designated for the hydration bladder to slot into. This pocket opens with a panel with two Velcro loops at the top. This pocket has obviously been designed with Salomons 2 litre Widepack bladder but interestingly can also be used with other designs too. This means no need to buy extra bladders if you already have one from another pack. The Salomon XA 10+3 bladder tube can be routed through either shoulder strap to the right or left to your preference.
The Salomon XA 10+3 Is Made to Last
The Salomon XA 10+3 is tough pack and made to last. The main materials used are 100 denier PA honeycomb nylon and 70 denier PA 210T Ripstop Polyurethane. The unloaded pack weighs in at just over half a kilo (510 grams) and is also available in a slightly modified version for women.
Tough, stylish, versatile and functional. Recommended.
