The Singer 1507 sewing machine is a very basic entry-level sewing machine which is ideal for anyone starting up a new hobby. This Singer is very light weight and therefore good for carrying around, but occasionally this can lead to problems when trying to sew heavier fabrics such as denim. The Singer 1507 is probably best suited to some basic mending in the home and for complete beginners starting to learn how to sew. Most people with some experience behind them will find this Singer lacking in features and functions.

Features

Being targeted at beginners, the Singer 1507 sewing machine does not have a huge range of features to shout about but what it does have is pretty decent quality. The 7 stitches provide beginners with the ability to learn about some of the most common stitches but nothing too fancy, although it does also feature a 4-step automatic buttonhole.

Other functions available on this Singer model include a convenient free arm which is an extra help when sewing awkward areas such as sleeves and trouser legs; a choice of three different needle positions means that stitching should be much neater, and a bobbin winder.

Despite having an adjustable presser foot which clears enough room for multiple layers and thicker fabrics, the machine doesn’t cope very well with this so is probably best avoided. One handy feature on the 1507 is the accessory storage compartment where users can keep their bits and bobs such as needles and bobbins.

Usability

The Singer 1507 sewing machine is surprisingly simple to use if you have had a bit of practice or have used machines before. However, for complete beginners who won’t have a clue where to start, the user manual isn’t very easy to understand, especially the section on the bobbin. It seems that Singer considered beginners when designing the machine but not the instruction manual!

Once you have got going there aren’t really any complaints about using the machine, it is quite easy to thread and generally runs very smoothly. The features and functions that you do have all work well and are simple to use for beginners.

Disadvantages

I don’t want to be too harsh on the Singer 1507 sewing machine as it is an entry level machine but the lack of functions would not be appreciated by anyone who had used a sewing machine before. Unfortunately this model does lack some time-saving features which have become pretty standard on most budget machines, such as automatic needle threading.

The other downside is the instruction manual, which does not really help out anyone struggling with the machine, most would have to refer to the internet to solve their problem.

Advantages

This model from Singer has been built with beginners in mind which is an advantage because although it is limited in what it can do, it doesn’t become too complicated or confusing for those with little experience.
