Full Review of the Singer 2250 Sewing Machine

This Singer has the model name Tradition and this is exactly right; it looks exactly like a machine would look if you asked someone to draw one from memory. It has few frills to look at, but it has a few little technological surprises up its sleeve like the lay-in threading, an embroidery feature and 10 automatic stitches. At less than 14lbs in weight it is very portable and as it is possible to add accessories the Singer 2250 Sewing Machine is an ideal starter machine which can grow with your expertise.

Getting started with your Singer 2250 Sewing Machine

This machine is not cutting edge but neither is it too basic. Any machine at this price with an embroidery function has to be a bargain. The four step buttonhole takes a bit of practice, but once youve got the knack its fine. In general this machine is easy to get started with but I thought that some of the claims are a bit exaggerated, for example the embroidery function is really just a darning function when you get right down to it.

On the other hand, it is cheap to have anything like that at all so I am not whingeing. If you bought this machine expecting much in the way of stitches you would be asking a lot, really. The instruction manual was okay, but I found that sometimes I had to read things several times to get the point. At only 13lb weight it is quite nice and portable and as it is perfect for running repairs I tend to take it to the job, rather than bring the job to it. Thats why I gave myself time to get familiar with all its functions, so I was good to go.

Is it worth buying?

I would say it is. At the price you could use it to learn on and it would be particularly good for that as it has lots of things but at a basic level. So, you would learn to do buttonholes in the four stage method and so you would be good at placing them and ripping when you progress to a one stage on a more sophisticated machine. In the same way you would be able to embroider on a very basic level, or do top stitching with the twin needle, ready to trade up at a later time. I think the Singer 2250 Sewing Machine would be especially good for someone who wants to give sewing a go but isnt sure if it is for them. It will always be useful for running repairs, even if it turns out you dont want to do the creative side.

  1. I received this machine brand new for my birthday. At first there were no problems but then the bobbin started jamming and the thread started looping. This machine might be ok if you don’t sew very much. This machine is best avoided if you sew on a weekly basis. It got to the point that I couldn’t use the machine without having to unjam the bobbin. This machine is definitely not worth the price or the hassle.
