Full Review of the Singer 3321 Sewing Machine

The Singer 3321 sewing machine is designed to appeal to beginners and novices, but it has a nice range of features which means it would not look out of place in the home of a more experienced dressmaker. This is one of the best models from Singer’s Talent range, and unlike many of the other newer machines is relatively well made. The cover provided is a bit disappointing as it is very flimsy and not much use – perhaps it could be your first project.

Features

The Singer 3321 sewing machine provides users with a choice of up to 21 stitch patterns allowing new users to do a little experimenting. There are some features on this Singer that you would not normally expect to find on an entry-level or starter machine, such as the automatic needle threader and drop-in bobbin with transparent cover. These are definitely welcome additions which will make setting up much quicker and less frustrating.

This Singer is pretty versatile thanks to the range of stitches available, which can be manually adjusted in length and width. As this isn’t a top of the range machine, the automatic buttonhole is a 4-step function, rather than a 1-step, but it’s acceptable. There are also 10 stretch stitches to choose from offering a much more professional finish on certain fabrics.

The dreaded threading is no longer too much of a problem thanks to the automatic built-in needle threader, which unlike many of these threaders, does the job quickly and efficiently. There is a high foot lifter which allows movement through thicker and multiple layers of fabrics, and the free arm provides access to those tough areas of the fabric such as trouser legs.

Usability

As a lightweight portable machine users can carry the Singer 3321 around the home or to sewing classes. Don’t forget just how heavy sewing machines can be, so if you are not planning on doing all your sewing in one place, you will need a machine that you can lift up and has a carry handle.

One of the only problems with having advanced functions is that it could potentially confuse someone with no experience of using a sewing machine. However, with a little advice and guidance, novices should be zipping through fabrics without any problems.

Disadvantages

There genuinely aren’t too many negative things to say about the Singer 3321 sewing machine, my main criticism is the protective cover which is flimsy and in my opinion quite useless. The only other downside is the lack of attachments as only the standard foot, zipper and button foot come with the machine, but I guess we can’t expect too much more from an entry-level machine.

Advantages

Sewing with the Singer 3321 sewing machine really is very simple, it breezes through a huge range of fabrics including silk, satin, cotton, and even denim. The other benefits to this starter machine include the numerous time-saving features, such as the automatic needle threader, top drop in bobbin, and horizontal thread holder. Sewing has often been seen as a mundane and monotonous task due to the time and frustration of setting up the machine, but the Singer 3321 takes that all away.
