Singer 4205

Full Review of the Singer 4205 Easy Thread Sewing Machine

The Singer 4205 Easy Thread Sewing Machine is one of the most basic models available on the market. Unlike other novice or entry-level machines from Singer, this one does not surprise buyers with additional features or good quality build. With this machine, you really do get what you pay for, but that might suit some beginners looking to try out a new hobby.

Cheap and tacky build

The Singer 4205 Easy Thread Sewing Machine really isn’t what many would expect from the Singer name. The machine itself and many of the accessories are made from a cheap plastic, including the snap-on feet and the arms; and do not provide the user with any assurance about its reliability and durability.

Although lightweight machines are usually a bonus, as it makes for easy transportation, this one feels just a little too light. The Singer 4205 can travel across the table when being used, so some sort of additional mat or rubber base would make it much easier to handle.

Suitable for beginners

This Singer is not one of the brand’s best but it is ideal for those who have not had any experience of sewing, and perhaps nothing to compare the Singer 4205 Easy Thread sewing machine against. Some entry level or budget sewing machines offer a lot more than this model, however, new or younger users might find this one just right. The machine is very easy to set up and simple enough to use for basic stitching, but for anything more heavy duty it isn’t great.

Buggy features

Unlike many machines from Singer, this model can cause some problems for basic sewing. Whilst buyers will not be expecting to create complicated patterns or to sew heavy upholstery, basic functions should be able to be carried out without problem. However, the Singer 4205 Easy Thread sewing machine does not sew in the central position, and there is an annoying problem with the thread tension.

Advantages

Despite a relatively harsh review of this machine, the Singer 4205 Easy Thread Sewing Machine does have some good points, albeit very few. One of the advantages that this machine holds is that the instructions are incredibly easy to follow, so if you can get past the annoying faults, you should be able to get some basic sewing done eventually.

The machine is incredibly lightweight and so could be a good buy for someone looking for a second machine to transport around. However, the Singer 4205 is very light, which can cause some problems as it slides across the surface.

Disadvantages

Unfortunately there are just too many disadvantages to the Singer 4205 Easy Thread Sewing Machine to mention them all but some of the most common issues include the nesting, poor build quality of machine and accessories, and the lack of a decent cover.

The verdict?

This sewing machine, if weighted to the surface with a mat or rubberised feet, would be ideal for those testing the waters or for younger users. It has very basic functionality but if that is all that you are after, then this is the machine for you.

Comments

  1. This sewing machine is flimsy and really not well made. I guess that I only have myself to blame for purchasing a machine for £129.99. The first time I used it the timing was already out of order. The singer 4205 is really junk. Overall low quality and limited features.
