Singer 7422 Computerised Sewing Machine

Full Review of the Singer 7422 Computerised Sewing Machine

The Singer 7422 Computerised Sewing Machine has so many great features which make sewing incredibly simple and can turn novices into experts in a flash. Unfortunately this machine does not live up to many customer expectations, as the build quality is fairly cheap, and not what many expect from the Singer name. The Singer 7422 is definitely most suited to those who are just starting out or who want to take up a new hobby. If you are a professional or experienced seamstress who is perhaps looking for a second machine – look elsewhere.

Electronic stitch formation

Just like every other feature on the Singer 7422 computerised sewing machine, the stitch formation is electronic, meaning that every single stitch is optimally set allowing the user to have confidence in the precision of the sewing. The stepper is electronically controlled ensuring that the formation of the pattern is perfect every single time.

Self-lubricating

Fortunately the Singer 7422 computerised sewing machine is self-lubricating so that users do not have to oil the machine manually. This is of great benefit to everyone but beginners in particular as it can be so easy to get oil all over fabrics without realising. The self-lubricating feature is just another way that this Singer will help novices get over the initial struggles of using a sewing machine.

Thread tension

The Singer 7422 claims to have automatic thread tension, and this is true to some extent, but it is not truly automatic. Automatic tension uses sensors to measure the thickness of the fabric, whereas this machine uses the stitch type and does not take the fabric into consideration. Whilst the Singer 7422 sewing machine helps with thread tension to a degree, it can still take some adjusting using the dials to achieve the perfect tension.

Advantages

There are so many great features on the Singer 7422, all of which are electronic or automatic, and geared towards novices who will not have the knowledge to set things manually. If you are a beginner, you will struggle to find another sewing machine capable of making sewing so simple.

Disadvantages

The advantage to this machine is also a disadvantage as sometimes the automatic features are not as great as a professional or expert might expect. In addition to this, the build quality is very poor and would not be expected to last very long at all. In fact, it has been known for several parts to broken or jammed even before the machine has been used which is not ideal. Singer is a trusted brand in the industry but unfortunately the 7422 just doesn’t live up to the name.

  1. I have been sewing every since I was 16 and finally decided to purchase a new sewing machine for the first time in my life. This machine is really sensitive and everything can go aery very easily. After only using it six times, I already had to reset the timing twice. When I called the Singer customer service they just told me to use only Singer needles and bobbins which I was already doing. I would recommend not purchasing a Singer.
