Full Review of the Singer Curvy 8770 Sewing Machine
If you ask people who sew with machines, whether they are novices or professionals what they hate about the process most, they will all say threading up and threading the needle. The Singer Curvy 8770 Sewing Machine has eliminated both of those hates with the new copyrighted Swiftsmart threading system and fully automatic needle threader. The shape of this machine shows that it is rather different, with its smooth lines and suave appearance and as a mid-price model it has many features such as 225 stitches, a memory with fifty blank spaces for you to put in your favourite combinations of stitches to save time and the very welcome LED lights which are much brighter than bulbs, cooler and easier on the eye.
The Singer Curvy 8770 Sewing Machine in use
Firstly, thanks from my husband to Singer who have finally come up with a machine which doesn’t drive him mad. I suppose a sewing machine going in the background is the indoor equivalent to the lawnmower outside and it can be annoying if you are not involved with the task at hand. However, he is almost unaware of this machine in action and I like it too as I can still listen to the radio or chat without any problem while I work.
As someone who tends to do many different styles of sewing, I like the fact that I can bunch my stitches together furnishing, dresses, kids, quilting and so I dont have to scroll through everything to find my favourites. The one touch threading is also excellent I had a few failures but very few considering and the needle threading is foolproof. I used a non-automatic machine at a friends house the other day and was lost without the automatic option how quickly we forget!
Any snags?
I find that sewing long straight seams can be difficult, which seems a bit of a silly thing to say as these should be the simplest part of any sewing. The machine tends to curve a bit and you have to wrestle the fabric to keep it straight. Going faster seems to solve this but it isnt always possible if you are using delicate materials and I wonder if it is a problem unique to the Singer Curvy 8770 Sewing Machine or something you find with all Singers I’ll have to ask around. It is a bit heavy, not impossibly so but you wouldnt want to carry it far, thats for sure. This could be said to be a positive, I suppose, as it means that it has a solid structure.

I bought this sewing machine about a year ago. It is well built and easy to thread. I won’t give it a 5 star rating because Singer didn’t build it right. It lacks enough features for the average sewer. It lacks the ability to create perfect straight stitches. The most challenging stitches and it is difficult to sew fabrics. In this instance you need a straight stitch throat and without it you tend to get uneven stitches. Singer did not incorporate an additional throat plate as part of this machine which is really disappointing.
Many companies offer this plate as an accessory however Singer doesn’t. I thought Singer would as well and I didn’t discover this until after I purchased the machine. Basically this machine is fine for beginners, but lacks a lot of features that more advanced sewers use.
